在Portishead 的第三張專輯遲遲沒有消息之際, 波提斯黑的主唱Beth Gibbons貝絲吉本 在2003年推出了她的首張個人專輯《Out of Season》 (季節過後), 在這張專輯中她和已經解散的Talk Talk合唱團的Bass手 Paul Webb（別名Rustin Man）合力製作, 曲風方面則是從樸素的民謠到抒情的爵士走向~充分的發揮了Beth 聲音的特色 -情緒的感染力及張力- 另外, Beth 在Portishead 中的夥伴吉他手 Adrien Utley也有參予了這張專輯部分歌曲的製作。Beth Gibbons 先前曾在自己的個人官網提到過「過去的一年中,我正在為法國電影【無名指】製作電影的配樂。」【無名指】是部耗時四年改編自日本暢銷作家小川洋子的作品《無名指的標本》的電影Beth 成功的完整呈現出了片中女主角艾莉絲的細膩心境,歌曲中帶著些許的頹廢佐以部分的詩意,讓電影的神秘氣氛更為迷人。不過就在我去查了網路之後, 發現這部電影很可惜的儘管音樂頗受好評,但是公司並沒有要發行原聲帶的打算,而且其中Lonely Carousel 這首歌並沒有收錄在本張專輯,而是收在Rodrigo Leão (Rodrigo Leao) 的專輯《Cinema》 裡面。所以想聽這首歌也只能自己訂了吧@@因為台灣並沒有代理《Cinema》這張專輯。
專輯上的介紹紙上提到Beth曾說：「我覺得這個作品碰觸了音樂本質的深層探索，我熱愛不確定的驚喜、意外的巧合…可能只是一個字的聲響，如果以最棒的方式去表達，那麼情感就能獲得完全的宣洩。」
這張專輯應該是需要細細品嘗的。貝絲吉本她的聲音是很有>情緒<的張力的,你總是不難發現她聲音在微微的懺抖著那樣令人心碎的情緒,卻在之後又能隨著歌曲而變成不同的味道, 時而詭譎 時而抒情,這總是難不倒她的。不像過去波提斯黑的作品運用大量的電子樂器,這張作品是以幾近>不插電<的方式呈現,還有就是波提斯黑的作品總是讓人聯想到詭異的黑白色系,但這張solo專輯則出現了各種色彩(雖然不至於到過分鮮豔繽紛) 但樸實簡約卻是它的迷人之處,並且反而讓人更難以忘懷。

p.s.台壓版專輯沒有收錄 Candy says 這首歌,不過我在Amazon 有找到所謂的 enhanced 版本,裡頭共有十一首歌,而 Candy says 就是第十一首,在這裡提及希望給大家做個參考...Candy says 這首歌好像是在2003年的巡迴演唱時才表演的,英國...歐洲她們好像2002年就發行了,而美版比較晚發行,不知道這是不是有關係呢
